Monday January 28, 2008 - Vancouver

So that’s right. I’m in Vancouver. What has that got to do with crawling across Toronto?
Well, it turns out that crawling almost 8k just wasn’t quite enough for me. You see something really excited happened that day. People cared. People got involved. And since then I have been trying to figure out what to do about that. How do I continue with this project in a way that includes people to the same extent that they were included in the actual divorce ceremony… or hey! Even more so! Which is how I ended up in Vancouver at the PuSh Festival where I’m pitching some ideas about how this thing could continue and seeing what kind of help is out there.
I had always wanted to document the event (thus I showed up with my own crew of 3 camera people) — and I knew that the documentation should be dynamic - ergo the wall of 24 videos displaying all eight hours of the crawl from the points of view of each of my 3 main cameras. Yes, there were many more cameras than that. Who knew all the press would suddenly show up en mass and blow this thing up the way they did. But ultimately, I’m so grateful because it meant that more people knew about it and more people were able to reach me with their own stories. I am deeply honoured to have recieved those stories. And for those that posted on the Live Shout Box, I will include your words in the installation 24 Windows. In fact, anyone who views the installation 24 Windows can add their story. I you sent me your story privately, have no fear, it will remain private.
Over the next few weeks I will keep you posted on upcoming events and workshop openings.
Let’s see what happens.
