Experimental creation & performance
Cathy is an independent performance artist, director, writer, choreographer and curator. Her work has appeared at the Queen West Art Crawl, The Drake, The Gladstone, Hysteria Festival, Festival of Independent Dance Artists, Rhubarb! Festival, Moving Pictures Festival, The Music Gallery, DNA Theatre, Theatre Passe Muraille, Factory Theatre, The Theatre Centre, Free Fall Festival as well as many site-specific venues. Directing highlights include multi-Dora nominated f u s i o n, Emily Hurson’s fringe hits Sleepy Jean and Nowhere, her own Black Painted Moon, My Thoughts On Miss Julie, 3 Prong Attack, Plan B and Becky Johnson’s plays Anoxerican (Nightwood’s Write From The Hip, Groundswell, SummerWorks) and Lunch (Tarragon Springs Arts Fair).
Previously the Associate Artist of DNA Theatre, she has collaborated on over a dozen shows with founder Hillar Liitoja. This season she is doing a DNA residency in which she is creating a new performance - On My Knees. She currently works on Queen West at The Theatre Centre as Managing Director and Community Liaison. She also curates and produces the mega-multidisc-art-party Block In One Spot and is now the co-curator of The Free Fall Festival (a national festival of experimental work).
Comedy: stage, television and alternative broadcasting
Cathy’s comedy career began with the naughty comedy duo The Cathy and Kyle Show. Soon after she presented her one-person hit show Everything I Ever Wanted to Be at the Rhubarb Festival under the fabulous direction of the same Kyle Tingley. She then went on to appear on the Comedy Network’s The Gavin Crawford Show and the next season became a contributing writer to the show.
She is one of the founding members of the popular video comedy troupe All Day Breakfast and continues to write and perform with them. All Day Breakfast has been mentioned in such publications as The Washington Post and Time Magazine, and their work has been viewed on television (including FUSE – New York City, ZED and Sketch With Kevin MacDonald on CBC, and Channel Four - UK), cell phones, internet sites (including just recently - Just For Laughs), and iTunes throughout Canada, the States, the UK and Australia. www.alldaybreakfast.ca
